Malami’s convoy attacked in Kebbi, several injured

Abubakar Malami’s convoy was attacked in Kebbi, leaving vehicles damaged and supporters injured, amid claims and counterclaims of political responsibility.

The convoy of African Democratic Congress (ADC) leader in Kebbi State and former Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, was attacked by suspected political thugs in Birnin Kebbi on Monday.

The incident occurred shortly after Malami’s return to the state while on a condolence visit. Witnesses reported that about 10 vehicles were vandalised and several supporters injured.

Malami, who served as Attorney-General of the Federation from 2015 to 2023, alleged the attack was politically motivated. “I was in Birnin Kebbi solely to pay condolences to families who lost their loved ones while I was away, not for political campaigns,” he said. He further alleged that the attackers emerged from the APC headquarters. “When it comes to politics in Kebbi State, there is no retreat, no surrender,” he added.

However, APC’s Publicity Secretary, Isa Assalafy, denied involvement, insisting Kebbi remains peaceful and accusing Malami’s security aides of firing shots during the clash. Police have not yet commented.
