French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday reiterated his support for a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestinian conflict, denying any double standards in France’s Middle East policy.

Speaking in Jakarta, Indonesia, Macron signaled a potential shift in France’s position toward recognizing a Palestinian state.

“Only a political solution will make it possible to restore peace and build for the long term,” Macron said.

Diplomatic sources suggest Macron is leaning towards formally recognizing Palestine — a move likely to anger Israel and further strain unity among Western allies.

Macron also revealed that France and Saudi Arabia are preparing to co-host a conference on Gaza in New York. The initiative aims to revitalize stalled efforts toward mutual recognition between Israel and Palestine.

“Together with Saudi Arabia, we will soon be organising a conference on Gaza in New York to give fresh impetus to the recognition of a Palestinian state and the recognition of the State of Israel and its right to live in peace and security,” Macron said.
