MACBAN slams Sunday Igboho pardon as ‘tribal justice,’ alleges Fulani attacks

Fulani pastoralists under MACBAN have rejected the pardon of Sunday Igboho, labeling it an ethnic favoritism that ignores the grievances of victims affected by his previous self-determination activities.

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has denounced the presidential pardon granted to Yoruba activist Sunday Igboho, calling it a “painful reminder” of the state’s failure to protect Fulani lives. The group alleges Igboho led violent 2021 attacks on settlements in Oyo State, resulting in deaths and forced displacement that remain uncompensated by the government.

MACBAN coordinator Alhaji Mumini Muhammad questioned the fairness of the justice system, contrasting Igboho’s freedom with the life sentence recently handed to IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu. Demanding a formal apology and financial restitution for victims, the association warned that “peace cannot exist where injustice is rewarded,” urging President Tinubu to ensure the law is applied equally across all ethnicities.
