Louvre robbers caught on video making sluggish escape after swift crown jewels theft

New footage shows the gang who stole £76 million worth of royal jewellery from the Louvre making a slow escape using a stolen lift truck.

A new video has revealed the gang behind the £76 million Louvre jewel heist making a slow escape from the Paris museum. The masked thieves, one wearing a high-vis jacket, were seen descending from the glass building on a 90ft lift truck before fleeing on motorbikes.

The seven-minute raid took place at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, with the group smashing windows and stealing eight royal jewels, including a tiara and emerald necklace once owned by French queens.

Police say the lift truck was stolen days earlier from Louvres and disguised with fake plates. Investigators recovered several items, including helmets and walkie-talkies, left at the scene.

Louvre president Laurence des Cars told lawmakers the museum had been “defeated,” admitting that surrounding CCTV coverage was “highly insufficient.” No arrests have been made, and the stolen jewels remain missing amid fears they’ve been sold on the black market.
