Liverpool owners FSG considering takeover of struggling Spanish club Málaga

Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the owners of Liverpool FC, are exploring the possibility of acquiring Spanish club Málaga CF. Once a Champions League quarter-finalist in 2013, Málaga has since fallen into financial difficulties and now competes in Spain’s third division. FSG is reportedly interested in expanding its football portfolio through a multi-club ownership model similar to Manchester City’s City Football Group.

In February, an FSG delegation, including Michael Edwards, Julian Ward, and Pedro Marques, visited Málaga to assess the club’s facilities and investment potential. The club is currently under judicial administration, with ownership split between Sheikh Abdullah Al Thani and Spanish hotel and real estate group BlueBay. Málaga’s financial struggles and leadership uncertainty present an opportunity for FSG to step in and revive the club’s fortunes.
