Lawless policemen attacked and forcefully dispersed a peaceful protest over the alleged illegal demolition of residential buildings in the community.
According to Sahara Reporters reporting on November 3, 2025, tension erupted in Oworonshoki, Lagos State, after lawless policemen attacked and forcefully dispersed a peaceful protest against the alleged illegal demolition of residential buildings. The protest, led by the Take It Back movement, saw human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and land owners attacked by personnel of the Lagos State Police Command. The police contingent began using teargas massively soon after Sowore arrived, having made good on his promise to attend the rally after his release from Kuje prison.
SaharaReporters learned that Lagos Police Commissioner, Moshood Jimoh, was seen earlier directing officers to stop Sowore “at all cost,” following a threat made by the CP the previous week.
Protesters, primarily displaced residents, had gathered to demand justice after their houses were allegedly demolished without prior notice. Sowore later departed the scene after raising the suspicion that the IGP had given specific instructions to some policemen to kill him. He condemned the police on Facebook live, explaining that this was the reason Nigeria is in a mess and “attracting outsiders like US president, Donald Trump to help save it.”
