Police in Lagos have arrested a man accused of selling his sister’s one-month-old baby for N2 million, allegedly to fund their mother’s burial.
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly selling his sister’s one-month-old baby for N2 million in the Igbogbo area of Ikorodu. The suspect reportedly claimed he carried out the act to raise funds for their mother’s burial after contacting the buyer through Facebook. The baby’s mother later reported the incident to the police, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
The suspect said he handed over the infant to a man sent by the buyer at Mile 2, after which N2 million was transferred to his bank account. He added that he gave his sister N500,000 while the rest was used for the burial. The Lagos Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, for further investigation, while police say the suspect will be charged to court after the probe is concluded.
