Lagos issues final warning to illegal estates

The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its stance on illegal estate developments, warning that non-compliant developers face imminent sanctions. “The Commissioner reiterated that the final one-week warning issued to the erring estates marked the last opportunity for them to submit their layout plans and obtain necessary approvals.” He added that penalties after the deadline would vary, stating, “the government would apply appropriate sanctions, ranging from heavy fines to demolition, depending on the magnitude of each infraction.”

Authorities urged prospective buyers to conduct proper verification to avoid financial losses, noting that due diligence remains essential. During the recent enforcement exercise, officials visited Whiteoak Estate 2 and Elite Garden Estate, developed by Bosmark Haven Properties. The state reminded the public that in August 2025, it had declared 176 estates illegal for lacking required layout approvals and gave developers 21 days to regularise their documents those who failed to comply are now the focus of renewed enforcement.
