A health crisis has erupted at the Pota Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Badagry, Lagos State, following revelations that the facility has been overrun by snakes and left in severe disrepair. An investigation by Badagry Today revealed a decaying structure with no stable electricity, where medical staff reportedly deliver babies by candlelight. “This hospital is in darkness,” a staff member said. “How can anyone deliver a baby or treat a patient by candlelight in 2025?” Staff claim over 20 snakes have been killed inside the PHC in recent months. Despite repeated complaints to local authorities, no action has been taken. “They nod. They leave. That’s all. Nothing changes,” one worker said. The last improvement was in 2021 through a private foundation. Meanwhile, a new health centre was built in nearby Ajido, drawing criticism. The PHC’s access road is also in terrible condition, worsening public frustration over neglect and failed infrastructure promises.
