Police in Lagos have arrested a couple for allegedly faking their own kidnapping and collecting ₦10m in ransom from relatives and friends.
A Lagos-based couple, identified as Fred and Goodness, have been arrested for allegedly staging their own abduction and extorting ₦10m from family and friends. Police said the couple faked the kidnap on January 7 to raise funds for the husband’s planned return to the United States.
A police source said operatives became suspicious after monitoring a ransom drop in Mushin, where both suspects emerged together with the money. Confirming the arrest, police spokesperson Abimbola Addebisi said, “The couple will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.”
