Lagos State Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Technology, Mr. Olatunbosun Alake, announced plans to double Information and Communication Technology (ICT) contributions to Lagos’s economy by 2030. Speaking at the Art of Technology Lagos 7.0, Alake also aims to increase invention and research by 50 percent to address local challenges and establish Lagos as a global technology hub.
Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat revealed the state is developing the Lagos Innovation Bill to promote research, protect intellectual property, and fund startups. He emphasized cybersecurity and smart mobility solutions for Lagos, which, despite its small landmass, accounts for about 10 percent of Nigeria’s population. Nationally, ICT contributed 11.18 percent to Nigeria’s GDP in Q2 2025.
