The announcement was made during the formal opening ceremony of the 2025 Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank Group, held in Abidjan.
The African Development Bank (AfDB) has announced a $15 billion investment in the Lagos-Abidjan Highway Corridor, a transformative infrastructure project set to enhance trade and connectivity across five West African nations. The funding was confirmed during the opening ceremony of the AfDB’s 2025 Annual Meetings in Abidjan, marking a major step toward regional integration.
The 1,028-kilometer highway will link Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana, and Côte d’Ivoire, significantly reducing travel time and boosting cross-border commerce. AfDB President Dr. Akinwumi Adesina called it “a game-changer for West Africa’s economic transformation,” emphasizing its potential to create jobs and strengthen supply chains.
Construction is expected to begin in early 2026, with completion targeted by 2032. The project aligns with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) goals, addressing critical infrastructure gaps hindering intra-regional trade.
