Kwara tragedy: US condemns killings, praises government security action

The United States has condemned the Kwara killings and backed President Tinubu’s deployment of security forces as casualty figures from the attack remain disputed.

The United States has condemned the deadly attack on communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, describing it as “horrific” amid conflicting casualty figures. While the Nigeria Police said 75 people were killed in Woro and Nuku communities, the US Mission in Nigeria said more than 160 persons were feared dead, with many still unaccounted for.

“The United States condemns the horrific attack in Kwara state in Nigeria,” the mission said, welcoming President Bola Tinubu’s order to deploy security forces and provide aid. Tinubu approved the deployment of an army battalion and a new military command, while the police also sent tactical teams. Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq said troops were already on ground.
