Former Kano State governor and leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is reportedly weighing a move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) amid ongoing opposition realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Local reports in Kano say Kwankwaso is in discussions with the ADC over a possible alliance involving former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi. The talks come as sections of Kwankwaso’s political structure in Kano are said to be drifting toward the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Negotiations are reportedly ongoing despite expectations that Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf may defect to the APC, a development said to have caused tension within the Kwankwasiyya movement. Speaking to DAILY POST, former NNPP chieftain Habib Hisham said, “I know our party leaders are working on bringing Kwankwaso to join the ADC. We will be happy to welcome him.”
