Former Kano State Governor and National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said any possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) would depend on firm political guarantees, particularly regarding control of Kano State and the protection of his political supporters. He made the remarks on Wednesday at his Miller Road residence in Kano while receiving NNPP leaders and members from Rano and Dawakin Tofa Local Government Areas.
Kwankwaso said discussions about joining the APC could not advance without clear commitments on the future of NNPP lawmakers, party officials, and grassroots supporters who constitute the core of the Kwankwasiyya movement. He recalled that his political bloc had previously contributed significantly to the formation of governments at the federal level but was sidelined after power was secured, warning that such an experience must not be repeated.
He noted that no APC leader has so far given assurances that his political structure would be preserved or that the Kano State government would remain intact under any proposed alliance. Emphasizing the need for clarity, Kwankwaso said he remains open to political realignment but would not take any step without concrete guarantees, adding that his supporters remain loyal to the NNPP pending any clear political safeguards.
