KWAM1 petitions Abiodun over Awujale nomination, calls process unlawful

For the second time, popular Fuji musician, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, also known as KWAM1, has written to Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, alleging his exclusion from the ongoing process to select the next Awujale of Ijebu and calling for the cancellation of the nomination meeting to avert prolonged litigation. In a letter dated January 14, 2026, written through his lawyer, Dr Wahab Shittu, and sighted by PUNCH Online, Ayinde urged the governor to declare the Fusengbuwa Ruling House nomination meeting held on January 12, 2026, null and void for allegedly violating the Ogun State Obas and Chiefs Law 2021. He faulted what he described as the “imposition of a delegate system” and the physical exclusion of some family members, insisting that the action amounted to “an arbitrary and ultra vires exercise of authority” that undermined the requirement for an open and transparent nomination.

Ayinde, who is the Olori Omooba of Ijebuland, stated that although the Fusengbuwa Ruling House was entitled to present candidates following the demise of Oba Sikiru Adetona, the nomination exercise conducted at Bisrod Hotel, Ijebu Ode, was flawed. He alleged that “our client and numerous other eligible members of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House were deliberately excluded and prevented from entering,” adding that armed security operatives were used to disenfranchise legitimate members, while access was restricted through special cards issued to selected “delegates.” According to him, the exclusion meant that the exercise “is procedurally defective, unlawful and consequently null and void,” prompting a call for a fresh, inclusive nomination. Meanwhile, the Fusengbuwa Ruling House has dismissed Ayinde’s claims, insisting he is not a member of the family, while the state government was yet to react as of the time of filing the report.
