Kebbi governor: soldiers left school before abduction

Kebbi governor Nasir Idris alleges that soldiers withdrew from the school hours before bandits abducted students, demanding to know “who authorised the military to withdraw?”

Kebbi governor Nasir Idris has raised alarm over the “withdrawal of military personnel” from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, just 45 minutes before bandits abducted several students, despite earlier intelligence warning of a possible attack.

Speaking while receiving NLC president Joe Ajaero, he said security agencies had assured the state that personnel would be deployed, but “the military was deployed, but they later withdrew by 3 am, and by 3:45 am, the incident happened.”

Idris demanded a thorough probe, asking, “Who authorised the military to withdraw? How did security personnel pull out at such a critical time?” He added that both state and federal authorities are working to secure the girls’ release, while Ajaero described the kidnapping as suspicious and insisted that “any attempt to stop the tide of progress will never succeed.”
