Katsina lawmaker hails bandit as “commander of peace” after releasing 37 abductees

Katsina lawmaker Abdurrahman Kandarawa hailed notorious bandit Isiya Kwashen Garwa as the “commander of peace” after securing the release of 37 abducted residents, urging the government to avoid arresting bandits engaged in maintaining peace.

Abdurrahman Kandarawa, representing Bakori constituency in Katsina, praised bandit leader Isiya Kwashen Garwa as the “commander of peace” following a deal that led to the release of 37 abducted residents — including 17 women, 18 men, and 2 children.

Speaking alongside Garwa and Bakori LGA chairman Abubakar Barde, Kandarawa emphasized the importance of both government and citizens contributing to peace, highlighting a committee monitoring security and discouraging ransom payments.

He further urged the government to refrain from arresting bandits who keep their promises, while addressing their basic needs like access to hospitals and water, stressing that only those who violate agreements should face punishment.
