At least 50 people have been killed in a series of bandit attacks across Malumfashi LGA, Katsina State, where gunmen opened fire on mosque worshippers and set others ablaze.
The death toll from last week’s bandit attacks on villages in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State has risen to 50, authorities confirmed. Lawmaker Aminu Ibrahim told the State Assembly that “thirty people were gunned down during morning prayers, and another 20 were burned alive in their homes,” describing the situation as “unbearable.” The attacks, which struck Gidan Adamu Mantau, Unguwar Yar Mai Dabo, Makera, and Burdigau, saw gunmen on motorbikes indiscriminately shooting residents. A villager from Burdigau said, “We alerted the soldiers… but they left. By dawn, the bandits came back.” Katsina’s Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Faskari, called the killings a “deeply painful and heartbreaking tragedy” while assuring families of renewed security efforts. Officials said an airstrike disrupted the attackers during an attempted mass abduction. Acting Governor Faruk Jobe later met the Chief of Defence Staff in Abuja, vowing to “work hand in hand with the Armed Forces until this menace is defeated.”
