Sheikh Lawan has been barred from preaching in Kano pending an investigation into blasphemy allegations.
The Kano State Shura Council has barred Islamic cleric Sheikh Lawan Triumph from preaching following allegations of blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad raised by Islamic groups.
Secretary of the council, Shehu Wada Sagagi, confirmed the suspension on Wednesday, according to Daily Nigerian. He said the restriction will remain in place until the cleric appears before the council to defend himself. Sagagi added that the council seeks fairness and justice in the matter and urged politicians not to interfere.
