Katsina lawmaker Abdurrahman Kandarawa requested the federal government cease arresting “peaceful bandits” after securing the release of 37 abducted residents through a peace deal with bandit leader Isiya Kwashen Garwa.
In a viral video, Kandarawa spoke alongside notorious bandit leader Isiya Kwashen Garwa and Bakori LGA chairman Abubakar Barde after securing the release of 37 abducted residents following a “peace deal” with bandits. The lawmaker acknowledged Barde and hailed Garwa as the “commander of peace,” saying, “Today (November 28), we are gathered here again in Farin Dutse, Faskari LGA…We are going home with 37 people today: 17 women, 2 children, and 18 men. That makes it 37.”
Kandarawa emphasized the role of both citizens and government in maintaining peace, noting a committee has been set up to prevent future incidents. He also requested that the state government consider the needs of the Fulani community, saying, “Our Fulani brothers have their needs as well, like hospitals, good water, etc.,” while warning that any wrongdoing by bandits should be punishable under the law.
