The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that vandals have once again destroyed the 33KV electricity supply line powering the Rigasa railway station and its adjoining village in Kaduna, barely 60 days after the line was repaired.
According to NRC MD Kayode Opeifa, personnel discovered the damage early Friday, noting that criminal elements “once more” tampered with the infrastructure, returning the area to darkness after two years without power. He condemned the rising wave of railway vandalism and urged security operatives in Kaduna to intensify surveillance, warning that such acts undermine safe and efficient rail operations.
Opeifa also commended a federal high court ruling that sentenced two rail track vandals to two years in prison, stressing that railway assets are national property and reiterating the federal government’s “zero-tolerance stance on vandalism.”
