A 50-year-old man has been arrested in Yobe State for allegedly hacking a fellow villager to death over suspicion of an affair involving his wife.
The Yobe State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Alhaji Hassan Umaru, 50, for allegedly killing a fellow villager, Sukari Abdul, 45, in Bundila Village, Gulani Local Government Area of the state. The incident was said to have occurred on February 1, 2026, at about 12:30 p.m., following a confrontation between the two men.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed the development in a statement on Sunday, saying the suspect accused the victim of having an affair with his wife. “On February 1, 2026, at about 12:30 hours, the Bara Divisional Police Headquarters received a report that one Alhaji Hassan Umaru, aged 50, allegedly suspected Sukari Abdul, aged 45, both of Bundila Village, of having an affair with his wife,” the statement read.
Abdulkarim said the confrontation escalated at the market square, where the suspect allegedly attacked the victim with a cutlass. “In the course of the confrontation, the suspect allegedly hacked the fellow villager with a cutlass at the market square. The victim was immediately rushed to the Bularaba Primary Health Care Facility for medical attention, where he was confirmed dead by a medical practitioner,” he added.
