AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has accused US President Donald Trump of praising Nigeria’s First Lady, Remi Tinubu, because of financial influence rather than genuine faith.
The 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has alleged that United States President Donald Trump praised Nigeria’s First Lady, Remi Tinubu, because of the “power of money.” Sowore made the allegation following Trump’s public recognition of Tinubu during the National Prayer Breakfast held on Thursday in Washington, DC.
During his address at the event, Trump acknowledged the presence of President Bola Tinubu’s wife and highlighted her role in faith leadership and religious life, describing her as a “very respected woman.” The remarks drew reactions online, particularly in light of Trump’s recent criticism of the Nigerian government over allegations of genocide against Christians.
Reacting via his official X handle, Sowore questioned the apparent contradiction in Trump’s stance. He wrote, “@RealDonaldTrump praising ‘singing’ Remi Tinubu at his Washington DC prayer breakfast is not faith, Trump has no faith in anything but the power of money.
“Trump and his business neocons scream ‘Christian genocide!’ for propaganda purposes, but the moment money changes hands, they suddenly become VIP guests receiving standing ovations.
“They weaponise religion when it helps them, then auction the same religion to the highest bidder.”
