One commander allegedly helped plan the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel, officials claim.
The Israeli military on Saturday said it killed three senior Iranian commanders in overnight strikes, including a key figure in Iran’s proxy network across the Middle East. One of the commanders, Mohammed Said Izadi, was described as a longtime intelligence target and head of the Quds Force’s Palestinian affairs unit.
According to Israel, Izadi played a key role in supporting Hamas ahead of its October 7, 2023, attack on Israel. He was reportedly killed in a strike on a safe house in Qum, central Iran.
Two other commanders — Behnam Shahriyari, accused of arms transfers to Hezbollah, and Aminpour Joudaki, head of drone operations — were also reportedly killed in separate strikes.
Spokesman Effie Defrin said: “In this operation, we have brought the war to them — we eliminated them inside Iran.”
Izadi had reportedly coordinated directly with Hamas leaders before and during the war in Gaza. Iran has not officially commented on the reported assassinations.
