Iran: US Embassy warns citizens over planned Abuja protest

The United States Embassy in Nigeria has warned its citizens in Abuja to remain indoors and cancelled visa appointments over planned protests linked to the ongoing Iran conflict.

The United States Embassy in Nigeria has issued a security alert to American citizens in Abuja over a planned protest in the Federal Capital Territory. In a statement posted on its official X handle on Wednesday, the Embassy said there is a high potential for demonstrations in the city following the current conflict involving Iran. It noted that previous protests by some groups over the ongoing conflict had resulted in violent clashes with Nigerian security forces.

“The Embassy strongly recommends that all US citizens in Abuja remain in their residences on Wednesday, March 4,” the statement added. The advisory comes amid heightened tensions and concerns over possible unrest in parts of the capital city.

In an earlier notice, the Embassy announced the cancellation of all visa appointments scheduled for Wednesday. The post reads, “Due to the potential for protests in Abuja, the U.S Embassy in Abuja has cancelled all visa appointments on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. Applicants will be contacted with information on how to reschedule. Please monitor our website and social media channels for further updates.” The mission urged citizens to stay alert and monitor official channels for further information.
