Dahiru Usman Bauchi, leader of the Tijjaniyyah Sufi order and one of Nigeria’s most influential Islamic scholars, has died at a private hospital in Bauchi after a brief illness.
Dahiru Usman Bauchi, a highly respected Islamic scholar and leader of the Tijjaniyyah Sufi order in Nigeria, has passed away at a private hospital in Bauchi after a brief illness, according to family sources. Born around 1927 in Gombe, he spent more than seven decades teaching Qur’anic exegesis and guiding millions of followers across West Africa.
Widely recognised as the Khalifah of the Tijjaniyyah Ibrahimiyyah in Nigeria, he also served as deputy chairman of the Fatwa committee of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA). He is survived by dozens of children, students, and followers, while funeral details will be announced soon.
