Police in Imo State arrested businesswoman Juliet Igwe, 38, for allegedly burning her six-year-old maid, Onyinyechi. The child reportedly sustained severe injuries, including to her private parts and hands, inflicted with candlelight and hot water. The arrest followed intelligence received by Ideato North police.
Police spokesperson Henry Okoye confirmed the arrest and lauded the Stand for Human Rights Foundation for its assistance. Igwe admitted to the acts, claiming she was punishing the child for stealing meat. Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma has ordered a swift investigation and prosecution.
