The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that his political career would be jeopardised if Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State is allowed to secure a second term in office. Wike made the statement on Saturday while addressing stakeholders during a meeting in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State, amid the ongoing political tensions in the state.
According to Wike, a firm decision has already been taken regarding Fubara’s second-term ambition, which he described as unacceptable. He suggested that supporting the governor again would amount to a costly political error for him and his allies. “We have made a decision as far as Tinubu is concerned. The other one — no way. Because if we make another mistake, then we will go and bury ourselves politically,” Wike said. He added that he would not allow himself to be politically “buried” by repeating what he described as a past mistake. The comments further underscore the deepening rift between the former Rivers governor and his successor, with implications for the state’s political landscape ahead of future elections.
