IG suspends enforcement of tinted glass law pending court ruling

The Inspector-General of Police has suspended enforcement of the tinted glass law pending a court ruling after consultations with the Nigerian Bar Association.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has suspended the enforcement of the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 1991, pending the outcome of a court case.

Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said in a statement on Thursday that the decision followed a meeting with the Nigerian Bar Association, led by its President, Afam Osigwe (SAN), at Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Although the police noted that no definitive court order had halted enforcement, Hundeyin explained that the suspension was made “out of consideration for the interest of Nigerians and regard for the Nigerian Bar Association.”

A Federal High Court in Warri had earlier ordered the police to suspend enforcement of tinted glass permits until the determination of a pending case.

The police also inaugurated a joint Police–NBA committee to strengthen collaboration on law enforcement and justice administration.
