“I was bragging”: Tinubu tells APC he promised state Police to U.S. and Europe

President Bola Tinubu revealed at the 14th APC National Caucus meeting that he promised U.S. and European partners that Nigeria would adopt state police. Addressing international skepticism regarding potential abuse by governors, the President maintained that legal safeguards would ensure accountability. “I was bragging to them that definitely we will pass state police to improve security,” Tinubu stated.

The President expressed unwavering confidence in the APC’s ability to deliver this reform, emphasizing that internal party cohesion is vital for national progress. He urged leaders to embrace flexibility and tolerance while taking their governance responsibilities seriously. “They asked me if I’m confident, and I said yes. I have a party to depend on,” he told the assembly.

Beyond security, Tinubu championed local government autonomy and increased female participation in politics. He insisted that Supreme Court rulings on local funding must be respected to stabilize grassroots communities. “Look at the recent Supreme Court judgment… there is no autonomy without a funded mandate; give them their money directly,” the President concluded, urging immediate compliance.
