Speaking to Channels Television, the 83-year-old said, “Unfortunately, we were in the hospital together, but I have been discharged. When I heard the news of his passing away I quickly went there to condole with the family and see what can be done in order to get the corpse ready to be taken home.”
Abubakar described Buhari as a trustworthy, quiet, and honest man. “You can trust Buhari with anything on this earth and he will not betray you,” he said.
He praised Buhari’s anti-corruption efforts, recalling his War Against Indiscipline campaign and similar efforts during his democratic presidency, though some of his appointees fell short.
Abubakar noted Buhari’s passing would reshape Nigerian politics and confirmed the body would be flown to Daura, Katsina State, for burial on Tuesday.
“His death has been a big blow to Nigeria,” he added.
