A manhunt has been launched after a masked man ‘released gas’ on the Manchester Metrolink which left passengers ‘feeling dizzy’ and ‘losing consciousness’.

The alleged gas attacks took place on two separate occasions on the Bury line of the tram network and left concerned commuters worried about what they might have inhaled.

The first incident took place on Thursday March 20 and then again on Saturday March 22.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the suspect, who boarded between the Queen’s Road and Crumpsall area, was spotted wearing a gas mask covering on his mouth moments before commuters heard a ‘hissing’ sound and were hit with the strong smell of gas. 

It’s thought the substance was butane gas.
