The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a 26-year-old teacher over alleged threats and his suspected link to the February 24 gunfire incident involving former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in Benin City, Edo State. A security source confirmed the arrest on Monday, stating that the suspect was tracked through forensic analysis after allegedly posting threatening messages on social media claiming responsibility for the attack.
The February 24 incident occurred shortly after Obi and other opposition figures attended a political meeting in Benin, when armed men reportedly opened fire near the residence of former Edo governor, John Odigie-Oyegun. No casualties were recorded. Security sources said the suspect remains in custody and investigations are ongoing to determine whether others were involved.
