Bash Ali, 69-year-old former cruiserweight champion, is suing ex-Sports Minister Sunday Dare for N500 billion over an alleged N13 million extortion linked to a proposed Guinness World Record fight. The lawsuit, FCT/HC/CV/6411/2023, will be heard July 3 in Abuja.

Ali claims Dare collected money to support a fight that never occurred, despite a purported $12 million advance from the federal government. However, insiders dismiss the case as defamatory, stating Dare was not minister when the incident happened.

They argue the N13 million referenced was part of a negotiated out-of-court settlement from a previous case involving ex-Minister Solomon Dalung. “From N28m to N15m. There is no N13m extortion,” an insider said.

Ali, inactive since 2004, has accused several ministers of corruption. Past allegations include a $1 million bribe demand from John Enoh and obstruction by Bolaji Abdullahi and Dalung. Sources now question the legitimacy of Ali’s long-delayed record-breaking fight.
