Reps issue 72-hour ultimatum to Amnesty chief over ₦26bn audit query

The House of Representatives has given the Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Dr. Dennis Otuaro, 72 hours to appear before its Public Accounts Committee over audit queries involving more than ₦26 billion. The Committee warned that failure to attend the session scheduled for Tuesday, 9 December 2025, may lead to a warrant of arrest after Dr. Otuaro allegedly ignored six previous invitations, triggering a motion by Hon. Dominic Okafor, which was unanimously adopted.

Audit reports under review alleged breaches including ₦17.6bn spent outside e-payment policy, ₦3.6bn disbursed without audit checks, ₦1.5bn tuition payments without documentation, and cash advances above approved limits. Committee Chairman, Hon. Bamidele Salam, insisted that the appearance is mandatory, warning, “The Committee will not tolerate further disregard for parliamentary authority.” The probe forms part of a wider accountability drive for large federal intervention funds.
