Homeless man hits $1m lottery jackpot in California

A homeless man in California received an unexpected Easter blessing after winning $1 million from a scratch-off lottery ticket.

According to the L.A. Times, the winning ticket was purchased earlier this month at Sandy’s Liquor in San Luis Obispo.

Wilson Samaan, the store’s owner, expressed joy over the win. “I was so excited, even more than him,” Samaan said. “He’s a good person. He deserves every penny.”

Initially believing he had won $100,000, the man was stunned when Samaan informed him of the $1 million prize. The winner, who chose to remain anonymous, plans to buy a house and a car.

Samaan, who has a “close relationship” with the winner, even drove him to the California Lottery office in Fresno to help secure the prize.

The California Lottery is still verifying the win. Sandy’s Liquor, as the selling retailer, will receive a $5,000 bonus.
