Heavy security surrounds Nnamdi Kanu’s home – Kanu’s brother

Nnamdi Kanu’s brother has alleged that heavy security operatives have surrounded the IPOB leader’s home ahead of a crucial court judgment.

Security tension rose on Thursday as Prince Emmanuel Kanu, brother to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, raised an alarm over what he described as a heavy presence of security operatives around the separatist’s family home. According to a report from DAILY POST, Prince Kanu made the claim in a Facebook post Thursday morning, just hours before a long-awaited judgment on Kanu’s terrorism-related cases.

He wrote, “Breaking news! Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s family house is currently surrounded by a large number of security agents. We are alerting the whole world”.

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja is expected to deliver judgment today on multiple applications filed by the Federal Government against the detained IPOB leader. Kanu, who has been in custody since 2021, is facing seven terrorism-related charges bordering on alleged incitement, operating an unlawful group, and actions said to threaten national security.

The development has heightened tension in parts of the South East as residents brace for possible reactions ahead of the judgment. Local reports suggest growing uncertainty, with some communities expressing concern over potential unrest.

The situation comes as debates over the terrorism charges continue, including Kanu’s insistence that the Federal High Court lacks jurisdiction to try him.
