‘He wanted me to be a lawyer’: Sabinus recounts dad’s initial rejection

Comedian Emmanuel Ejekwu, known as Sabinus, said his father strongly opposed his decision to pursue comedy, insisting he study law despite repeated failed attempts to gain admission. Sabinus explained that he hid his skit-making throughout university, where he studied Linguistics and Communication Studies, until his father discovered posters of him after graduation, leading to anger as he “fumed, ‘Which comedy? Stupid business. Look at the boy I sent to become a lawyer.’”

He added that his father only began to accept the path after Sabinus started earning from comedy and supporting the family, eventually giving his full blessing as his popularity grew.
