‘He beat me, broke my nose after questioning him for bringing lovers to our bed — Woman tells judge

A woman identified as Faliat has approached a Grade A Customary Court sitting at Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, seeking the dissolution of her 30-year union with her husband, Hammed, whom she accused of irresponsibility, infidelity and brutality. The plaintiff told the court that she had endured the marriage for decades but could no longer continue, describing the relationship as unfulfilling and emotionally draining.

Faliat alleged that Hammed neglected his responsibilities towards her and their six children, leaving her to shoulder both parental and domestic duties alone. She further accused him of habitual infidelity, claiming he brought strange women into their home and slept with them on their matrimonial bed. According to her, attempts to challenge his behaviour often resulted in physical violence, leaving her with injuries, including a broken nose during their last altercation.

The plaintiff told the court that she desired peace in the remaining years of her life, which she said was impossible under the same roof with the defendant. She requested custody of their last child and asked the court to compel Hammed to be financially responsible for the child’s welfare, including feeding, education and healthcare. She also sought an order restraining him from harassing or threatening her. Hammed denied all the allegations but agreed to the dissolution of the marriage.
