Governor Yusuf launches amnesty for political thugs in Kano

The Kano State Government has launched an amnesty programme for repentant political thugs as part of efforts to address youth restiveness and insecurity.

The Kano State Government has announced plans to grant amnesty to repentant political thugs under its ‘safe corridor’ initiative aimed at tackling thuggery and youth restiveness.

The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi-Waiya, disclosed this on Wednesday during the programme’s inauguration at the state police command headquarters. He said 718 youths had already been profiled, with 960 more awaiting police validation.

“His Excellency, Governor Abba Yusuf is so much concerned about this (thuggery menace) because the development is very much ugly and it doesn’t really speak good of the image of the state,” Waiya said.

He explained that the beneficiaries would undergo drug tests, rehabilitation, and reintegration into society before receiving amnesty.

Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori urged armed youths to surrender, while Hisbah Board chief Sheikh Aminu Daurawa appealed to them to share intelligence on drug dealers and encourage others to embrace the initiative.
