“What I thought would be a ten min call lasted two and half hours – he basically told me how not to die!”
Actor Glen Powell has shared that Tom Cruise personally guided him through the dangers of stunt work before filming his upcoming movie The Running Man, according to PEOPLE reporting.
Speaking on The Graham Norton Show on Friday, Powell said Cruise called him ahead of production to share safety tips. “What I thought would be a ten min call lasted two and half hours – he basically told me how not to die!” Powell said. The Top Gun: Maverick star also gave him a few lessons in running, joking, “You should film yourself running because you don’t look as cool as you think you do.”
Powell, 37, described one scene that required him to abseil down eight stories in freezing weather, wearing a tight harness. He added that Cruise, 63, “is known for performing all of his own action-movie stunts.”
Powell revealed he also got Arnold Schwarzenegger’s blessing to reprise the role of Ben Richards from the 1987 original. “He was lovely and gave me his blessing,” he said.
The Running Man is scheduled to hit theaters on November 14.
