Nigerian actress Funke Akindele has made history in Nollywood as her 2025 film, Behind the Scenes, surpassed N2 billion at the box office, becoming the first Nollywood film to achieve the milestone.
Released on December 12, 2025, the movie became the fastest film in West Africa to surpass N1 billion in revenue and also recorded the highest single-day gross in Nollywood history on Boxing Day, earning N129.5 million.
In an Instagram post, the film’s distributor, FilmOne Entertainment, announced that the movie had officially grossed N2,103,039,706, making it the highest-grossing Nollywood film across Africa, the UK, and Ireland, and cementing Funke Akindele’s position as the number-one box office filmmaker in Africa for three consecutive years.
The success was described by FilmOne as a “movement,” with Funke herself expressing gratitude to fans on Instagram. “Our hearts are full of gratitude to God and to you, my amazing fans, who have truly become family. Thank you for showing up, supporting, and believing in this journey,” she wrote.
Co-directed by Funke Akindele and Tunde Olaoye, the film features actors including Scarlet Gomez, Uzor Arukwe, Destiny Etiko, Mr Macaroni, Ini Dima Okojie, and Iyabo Ojo.
Behind the Scenes follows Aderonke “Ronky Fella” Faniran, a successful real estate entrepreneur whose kindness and personal decisions affect her private life, leading her to confront the consequences of her actions in a reflective and emotional journey.
