Security agencies have identified 40 military and civilian suspects in a foiled plot to overthrow President Tinubu, with financing allegedly linked to Timipre Sylva and retired officers.

Nigerian security agencies have concluded investigations into an alleged coup plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu, identifying 40 suspects, including senior military officers, a police officer, and civilians allegedly involved in reconnaissance, funding, and propaganda operations, PREMIUM TIMES reports. Sources said 16 officers were arrested for direct participation, while others were linked to logistics, civil disobedience, and financing, with some suspects still at large.

Investigators revealed the plot initially aimed to disrupt the 2023 presidential inauguration but was suspended due to insufficient funds. The conspiracy allegedly resurfaced in 2025 after former Bayelsa Governor Timipre Sylva and retired Major General Adamu transferred nearly N1 billion to fund the operation. Top officials—including President Tinubu, VP Shettima, and the National Assembly leadership—were targeted, with plans to seize strategic locations, including the Presidential Villa and key military installations.
