Fubara Under Fire: Rivers lawmakers begin impeachment process

The political crisis in Rivers State escalated on Thursday as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Oduh. During a plenary session presided over by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, Majority Leader Major Jack read a notice outlining allegations of gross misconduct against the governor. Reports indicate that at least 26 lawmakers signed the notice, which they said was in accordance with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution.

In line with legislative procedures, Speaker Amaewhule stated that the notice would be formally served on Governor Fubara within seven days. Meanwhile, Deputy Majority Leader Linda Stewart read a separate notice containing similar allegations of gross misconduct against Deputy Governor Oduh, signaling the House’s intent to pursue impeachment proceedings against both top officials.
