NATO remains “stronger than ever,” a British commanding officer has said, pointing to joint military exercises in Estonia as tensions and fears of a wider global conflict persist.
NATO feels “stronger than ever” despite growing fears of a potential World War 3, according to a British commanding officer speaking during a major alliance training exercise in Estonia. The remarks come amid renewed criticism of NATO by former US President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly attacked the alliance and previously threatened to seize Greenland, raising questions about future transatlantic unity.
A total of 1,259 NATO troops gathered on Tuesday at the Tapa military base in Estonia for the multinational exercise, underscoring continued military cooperation among member states. Lieutenant Colonel Mark Luson, commanding officer of the Royal Tank Regiment, said the drills demonstrated that allied nations remain closely aligned and committed to collective defence.
Luson said: “Right now, on this training area, we have got a US tank company part of the exercise, we’ve got the French company as part of the Forward Land Force battle group, and operating alongside Estonian partners as well.” He added that the scale and diversity of forces involved highlighted the alliance’s cohesion at a time of heightened geopolitical tension.
