Gunmen attacked Lakwaya town in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State on Sunday night, abducting five residents, local sources said. The incident occurred in Zurin Mahauta village, leaving the community tense and fearful. The village head, Murtala Mai Unguwa, confirmed the attackers stormed the area under the cover of darkness and took the victims to an unknown location.
Security operatives were alerted immediately, and efforts to track down the abductors and rescue the victims are ongoing. Mai Unguwa stated, “Security personnel responded promptly, and efforts are ongoing to track the abductors.” Residents expressed concern over repeated attacks in the area and urged for a stronger, sustained security presence.
The Army’s 3 Brigade Public Relations Officer, Captain Babatunde Zubairu, confirmed the kidnapping. He said, “Only five were abducted, and we are trying to get them back. Troops on the ground are doing their best to return them safely to their families.” Authorities continue to coordinate efforts to ensure the safe return of the victims.
