Americans were left confused after Donald Trump’s security detail appeared to leak top-secret information – including war plans – in what was described as a huge ‘intelligence security failure’.
America’s virtual war room – where strategies were being formulated to strike Yemen’s Houthi rebels – was accidentally revealed to Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic Magazine. The journalist was mistakenly added to Trump’s national security team group on Signal, where highly classified information was being exchanged. Among the key Trump associates involved were Vice President JD Vance, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard, Trump’s chief of staff Susie Wiles and national security advisor Mike Waltz.
On Thursday, March 13, Goldberg received a message from Mike Waltz, inviting him to join the “Houthi PC small group” on Signal. A follow-up message from Waltz read: “Team – establishing a principles [ ] group for coordination on Houthis, particularly for over the next 72 hours.
“My deputy Alex Wong is pulling together a tiger team at deputies/agency Chief of Staff level following up from the meeting in the Sit Room this morning for action items and will be sending that out later this evening”.
