A late-night fire destroyed records at the Kwara State University of Education, with authorities attributing the incident to suspected bush burning and urging preventive safety measures.
A fire outbreak on Friday gutted offices used as stores at the Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin, destroying official records, including files, documents and journals. The incident occurred around 9:14 pm in a four-office building, with three offices affected by the blaze.
The Kwara State Fire Service said firefighters responded promptly and contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings. The service advised against indiscriminate bush burning and urged institutions to maintain buffer zones, store sensitive documents safely and provide basic firefighting equipment.
