India risks being banned from world football again within three years if the All India Football Federation does not adopt its long-pending constitution by October 30.
India could face its second suspension from world football in three years after FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation issued a joint ultimatum to the All India Football Federation (AIFF). The governing bodies expressed “profound concern” in a letter to AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey over the failure to finalise and adopt a new constitution.
“Failure to meet this schedule will leave us with no alternative but to refer the matter to the relevant FIFA decision-making body for consideration and decision,” the letter, seen by AFP, warned. It added that “AIFF must regard this communication as binding and requiring immediate compliance in order to safeguard its rights as a member of FIFA and the AFC”.
The AIFF constitution has remained in India’s Supreme Court since 2017. A suspension would bar national teams and clubs from all international competitions.
India’s top-flight club football also faces turmoil, with the Indian Super League at risk due to a dispute over a rights agreement crucial to its survival.
